George Gaynes, alum of the beloved comedy franchise ‘Police Academy’, has died at the age of 98.
Gaynes passed away on Monday in North Bend, Washington; his daughter Iya Gaynes Falcone Brown, confirmed to the New York Times.
Gaynes played many roles in iconic shows, but his role as Commandant Eric Lassard in all seven Police Academy movies was one of the biggest hits. He also played Henry Warnimont on the 80’s NBC series Punky Brewster and as mob boss Frank Smith on General Hospital.
He was also a baritone singer and made many appearances in film, theatre and the even the opera.
Gaynes is survived by his wife, actress Allyn Ann McLerie, his daughter, one granddaughter, and two great-granddaughters.
